Open Sailing - 16th August, 2022
Last night (Tues 16th August) was the final night of this year's Open Sailing events and saw four boats (Amare, Tidecatcher, Ingrid and Solveig) turn up to provide our guests with a wonderful sail to round it off.
Weather conditions less than an hour before the start were indicating that a trip around Wardie Bay under engine power alone would be the only option to offer our guests but, as so often happens on the Forth, the wind suddenly filled in and once out of the harbour, we experienced NE winds gusting between 15 and 21 knots.
Most of the fleet headed over in the direction of Burntisland, turning at the deep channel markers for the return journey. Amare, having managed a quick get away from the harbour, headed Westwards and was able to round Inchmickery before returning to harbour.
Afterwards, a visit to our clubhouse offered everyone refreshments and a chance to reflect on the evenings sail. This is the last Open Sailing event on this year's calendar and a huge thank you must go out to all the Skippers who have supported it and made their boats available throughout the year it would not have been possible without them!
Equally, thanks go out to the boatmen and relief boatmen for getting us all back safely on our return to harbour and for the bar staff for keeping us "hydrated" afterwards in the clubhouse.
This event offers a short "taster" to those thinking of taking to the water and hopefully the success of this year's event can be repeated next season when we can look forward to expanding our membership further as we attract more people into our sport.
Best regards
SF
p.s. Thanks go wholeheartedly to Stuart Fowler (SF) and the Open Sailing Team for their enthusiasm, generosity and commitment for making all of this happen!
