Allow us to welcome you to the Royal Forth Yacht Club

Welcome to the Royal Forth Yacht Club. We are an established water-sports club with over 150 years of history. The Club is based at Granton Harbour within easy reach of Edinburgh city centre and provides fast access to the beautiful sailing waters of the Firth of Forth, for day sailing or for ventures further afield.

A varied racing and cruising programme is offered for members’ participation and the Club has its own fully serviced moorings for members’ boats and a manned launch service to access them. Our extensive boatyard is available for secure boat storage and basic maintenance. There are several club boats for members to use, as well as providing the opportunity to crew for other boat owners.

Our onshore facilities include a welcoming clubhouse, function room and patio with licensed facilities and hospitality seating for up to 70 persons to accommodate the busy, varied social programme throughout the entire year.

Whether an experienced sailor or beginner, boat owner or just seeking the opportunity to get out on the water, please get in contact and we would be delighted to welcome you to the Club. For more information

Knowledge Hub- The One About Towing

After a number of blustery days, it was a perfect calm evening for the latest Knowledge Hub. A short theory session (with props!) proceeded the practical exercise. Two ribs and two yachts took part and participants practised towing alongside- fitting the lines to give the rib maximum control over the towed vessel and then spending some time manoeuvring round the harbour before venturing outside the harbour walls and then safely back! A really useful session More »

A great night for Open Sailing

Guests were treated to a little bit of excitement on our most recent Open sailing event. Seven boats took part in conditions that were a little bit blustery with W/SW wind speeds gusting up to 25knts and most boats opting to either heavily reef main sail and Genoa or to go under reefed Genoa alone. On leaving the harbour most boats headed over to the deep water channel before tacking up river with More »

A blustery but fun Cruise in Company

There was a good turnout for the first, rather blustery, Cruise in Company of 2025. Jon H did a brilliant briefing beforehand, detailing the forecast, potential hazards en route and a beautifully hand drawn chart of the anchorage we were aiming for, east of Aberdour. In the event, not many aimed for the anchorage given the conditions, but reefs were in and some fantastic sailing was had. Many thanks to David Penny for the More »

Open Sailing - 17th June 2025

Our next Open Sailing evening of the season is being held on 17th June. Open to members and non-members, reserve your space to enjoy an evening crewing on one of our member's boats for a (hopefully sunny!) sail in the Forth, maybe across to Aberdour or round one of the islands.. Are you thinking about joining the Club but would like a taster first? Or are you a non-boat owning member looking to enjoy an More »

Knowledge Hub on the water-Marina Manoeuvres in gusty winds

The first practical session of the Knowledge Hub series was a very successful and enjoyable evening. Almost reduced to a theory session by the whistling easterly wind, it died down enough to go and practice what had been discussed in the Clubhouse lounge. Alex and Torben had talked through the techniques and shared some personal mishaps so they could be avoided. They then made themselves available to talk through the techniques as they were being More »
