Open Sailing - 22nd August, 2023

Our final Open Sailing event of the season took place last night in, for what has seemed to be the norm this season, "blustery" conditions.

With South Westerlies of 15knts gusting 24knts and overcast skies threatening rain, our guests were treated to an exciting evenings sailing.

Many of the six boats that took part last night chose to opt for a heavily reefed sail plan and headed out NW towards Inchmickery before turning round and heading back to harbour. Interestingly, none of the boats last night chose to sail in what might have been regarded as a safer option of sailing in the calmer conditions in Wardie Bay.

Once again, unfortunately, our brief time on the water was curtailed by the launch service and all boats taking part safely returned to harbour by around 20.00hrs.

Returning to the club afterwards for refreshments provided the opportunity to discuss the evenings event and for skippers to answer any questions that our guests might have for them.

Afterwards, listening to reports from skippers taking part, it would appear that their guests thoroughly enjoyed their brief time on the water and most expressed a desire to continue to pursue their interest in sailing. Lets hope that interest is carried out at RFYC.

These events have been great fun to do and it has been a pleasure to greet the many fascinating and wonderful guests through our doors and introduce them to our sport. Hopefully, we have suitably impressed them and they will carry their experience with them as they continue on their voyage.

A huge thanks go out to all the skippers who have generously provided their time, experience and of course their vessels to enable these events to take place.

Without them these events simply would not happen!

With a recent influx of new members and boats to our club, lets hope we can involve some of them and expand on these Open Sailing events as we go forward into the 2024 season.
