Learning opportunities
RFYC believes that it is important to invest in the future of sailing by offering learning opportunities to members and the public. There are a number of ways in which we do this: -
Cadet (under 18) training takes place on Tuesday evenings during the sailing season. There is a mix of onshore and on the water training due to tides. On the water activity is in club dinghies Toppers, Laser 2000s and a Feva. Cadets and a parent must be members of the club and parents are encouraged to help. There are attractive rates for both categories.
Skill-based courses are also organised for members, based on demand and need. These include training in the use of the RFYC crane, yard tug and committee boat and skill-specific courses such as Powerboat Level 2, Safety Boat, VHF and Assistant Instructor courses.
Open Sailing - On several Tuesday evenings over the sailing season, club keelboat owners offer sailing experiences in their own boats. This is open to RFYC members and the public and is bookable on the RFYC website. This is an enjoyable way of getting out in a boat and is followed by a trip to the club lounge to socialise.
RYA Discover Sailing - We participate in the RYA scheme to offer an insight to sailing to members of the public. This normally takes place on a day in May. Club members offer to take people out in their boats, and this is always a fun day for both volunteers and participants.
Club boat hire - The club owns 2 Squibs that are available to club members for hire via a booking form in the members Login section of the web site. The club dinghies are also available for use by club members please contact sailingsec@royalforth.org if you wish to do this.
