Cadets

Our Cadet Club dinghy sailing programme, for young people aged between 8-18, is an informal syllabus led by a RYA qualified Senior Instructor. It runs on Tuesday evenings from 6pm during the sailing season (April to September) with a break in July for holidays. This is a great opportunity to develop sailing skills, have fun and make new friends.

The cost for the season's training is £150 per cadet for existing Ordinary or Family members and £250 if you join as a non-member - this includes a cadet membership at £25 as well as a parent membership at £25. If a parent signs up two or more of their children, they only have to pay their parent membership once (that is, for example, £250 for the first child and £225 for any further child). Fees go towards training provided by our qualified external Sailing Instructor, club volunteers, use of Club boats, rescue cover and use of and investment in club facilities for the duration of the sessions. Membership includes full access to our clubhouse activities as well as wider sailing opportunities for the cadet.

Cadet training is supported and run voluntarily by highly experienced Club members. It is greatly appreciated if parents of Cadets can extend their support at each session. Ongoing opportunities for parents and older cadets to train as an Assistant Instructor with the RYA will help RFYC deliver the Cadet programme into the future.

A variety of club dinghies and keelboats are available to those without their own dinghy, including seven Toppers, two 2000s and a Feva.

Sessions are either water or shore based depending on the state of the tides. The annual Cadet Regatta takes place at the end of the season.

The Cadet programme is a vital part of the Club as it starts the sailors of the future on their journey and hopefully gives them the skills and passion to carry on sailing into adulthood.
