Lift Out- A day late, but they're all out!

It might have been postponed a day, and had a torrential rain shower, but all the boats got lifted out on Tuesday! The day started with clearing the yard of trailers and lifting the 6 bilge-keelers who had overnighted on the slip. After this, most people managed to disappear inside for a sustaining roll and coffee from the excellent House Team while we waited for the tide. It was a long day with a race

    Knowledge Hub- Night Sailing

The last Knowledge Hub on the water this season took us to the dark side. Nine brave sailors on two boats (Kudos and Sea Ventures IV) practised their night sailing skills. This included navigation by various lights (the first challenge was to recognise the various light houses in the Forth by their light characteristics), hoisting and dropping sails in the dark (illuminated only by red head torches, the moon, and Edinburgh's gorgeous night skyline), and

    Cruise in Company 6th September

This was our last Cruise in Company of the season. In bidding 'au revoir' to this season's sea faring life, grand ideas were aired by the organisers about overnight anchorages off the island of Fidra to search the island for treasure but unfortunately, the weather forecast had other ideas. Jokes aside, it turned out to be an incredible cruise of boat partying and barbequing, with dolphin sightings, anchoring (new for some, draggy

The Stewart Brewing Festival Series 2025

Our popular Festival Series was back this year! The BIG difference this year was the generous sponsorship by Stewart Brewing. They are a local company based in Loanhead, who produce fabulous beers with very interesting names: for example, Jurassic Guava, Gert Lush and Pulp Friction to name but three. The fourth year of this White Sail Regatta was free to enter and offered basic level competition. Yachts travelled from Burntisland

    Cadet Open Sailing 12th August

Our cadets were treated to a marvellous couple of hours on board our regular fleet of volunteer boats on the last of the season Open Sailing event. This event was aimed at giving our young RFYC cadets, instructors and helpers some experience of sailing on a keel boat and to learn the many differences associated in doing so stepping up from their usual dinghies. The weather throughout the day suggested that there would

    Cruise/Race in Company-10th August

Thanks to Torben for organising a very enjoyable Cruise/ Race in Company on Sunday. The destination was Portobello where the cruisers anchored up for a leisurely lunch and where the racers aimed for, after a loop round the Pallas Buoy. Torben's 'Ingrid' was their finishing mark, and Voodoo in particular came in at speed! After a gentle cruise down river, the winds picked up slightly for the homeward trip. These also helped fan the flames

    Light winds for Open Sailing

Challenging conditions on our latest Open Sailing event gave skippers plenty of time to consider their sail plans. With very light Easterly winds and calm seas it was surprising that only one boat ("Ingrid"), out of the eight that participated, opted to fly their spinnaker for a short while. Perhaps the others couldn't quite remember where in the attic they had placed them? It was a pleasure to see Mark Primrose take to the

  • Festival Series open to all Clubs on the Forth

This is the fourth season of this venture and is back due to popular demand. In the last Series we opened the event to neighbouring clubs on the Forth and enjoyed the company of folks from BSC and FYC in addition to our two Granton Clubs. We now invite all clubs on the Forth. A mini Cruise event was an addition last year. To encourage visitors, we will not charge berthing fees on the

    Open Sailing- 15th July

With Stuart away sunning himself on the west coast with Brian Robertson on Tide Catcher I was tasked with penning a few words regarding the last Open Sailing event. We had the pleasure of the following boats: Moon White, Eriskay, Gonzo, One For The Road, and we were especially pleased to see Mark Primrose bringing Grateful out of hibernation for the occasion. We all had a pleasant blast across the Forth. The rain

    Sunshine after the rain

After Tuesday's torrential deluge, one of our members took this stunning photo of a full rainbow across Granton Harbour. It looks like a couple of lucky boats may be sharing the pot of gold..!

Near perfect conditions for Open Sailing

Guests were treated to a wonderful couple of hours on the water on the latest Open Sailing event held at the club. Five members generously gave up their time to take twelve guests on their boats and treat them to a few hours of sailing in near perfect conditions. With steady E. N/E winds of between 12/15knts most boats departed with full sail and made their way over towards the deep water channel.
