Open Sailing - 2nd August, 2022
"To Sail or not to Sail"
Last night (2nd August 2022) witnessed 8 boats volunteering to take 16 guests on the water for our penultimate Open Sailing event.
Due to the blustery conditions, which had seen wind speeds gusting in excess of 30 knots during the day and with very little signs of them abating, it was decided for safety reasons to limit our activities on the water. Therefore, as most guests were inexperienced sailors, it was decided that skippers would take their guests on to their craft to give a brief tour of their boats and explain the operation of the various pieces of equipment on board.
However, weather conditions seemed not to deter four mavericks from sticking their noses outside the harbour walls for a short sail and no doubt provided some excitement for the guests on board.
The evening concluded with most skippers and guests returning to the clubhouse to enjoy refreshments and for a chance to reflect on the evening's activities.
Thanks go to Will Davies who stepped in at short notice to open the bar earlier than anticipated and for also attending to the membership enquiries from our guests.
This event would not be possible without skippers volunteering their boats and thanks also go out for doing so to Moon White, Tidecatcher, Errant, Gonzo, Solveig, Mylene, Idothea and Orithya.
This year's final Open Sailing event is on 16th August details of which can be found on the RFYC website.
Hope to see you there!
