Open Sailing - 19th July, 2022
Yesterday evening (Tuesday 19th July 2022) saw 8 boats take to the water for the fourth of the Open Sailing events at RFYC and enabled 14 guests to experience a taste of sailing on the Forth, including 5 Ukranian visitors we were delighted to be able to welcome at short notice.
Once the formalities of matching our guests with participating skippers were out the way we were able to get on the water for 18.15hrs.
Most weather forecasts had been predicting SW 6-15 kt winds for the evening but prior to leaving the harbour most anemometers were failing to register due to the lack of wind and most skippers were expecting to have an evening of "Motor sailing".
On departing the harbour most boats picked up a gentle NE breeze that made for a pleasant sail towards the Fife coast. The return journey coincided with a 180 deg wind change and provided the SW wind that had previously been predicted.
The evening concluded with most skippers and crew returning to the club for refreshments and a chance to reflect on the evening. Feedback received so far has been positive with many guests already committing themselves to attend the two remaining events (2nd August and 16th August).
All in all, it was a pleasant evening's sail that provided some sort of relief on what was one of the warmest days on record.
This event, of course, would not be possible without the participation of skippers providing their boats and experience and a huge thanks goes out to them for doing so.
The next "Open Sailing" event takes place on the Tuesday 2nd August - details of which can be found on the RFYC webpage.
Hope to see you there!
