This talk, by Martin Edge, will be about the joys of sailing in Scandinavia. In particular the sheltered, tideless waters and three thousand beautiful islands off the west coast of Sweden, along what's called the "Bohuslän Coast".

Like much of Scandinavia, this coast is a paradise for sailors, and indeed anyone with a boat of any description. You can choose to sail in anything from open sea to beautiful, mirror-calm channels, between oak and pine woods.

You can find yourself a deserted island, tie up to a rock in one of nature's marinas, and nip ashore for a spot of sunbathing and a barbeque. The talk is called 'Rock Dodging', but here, the rocks can be your friends!

So many Swedes own boats, that the coast is littered with pleasant, affordable guest harbours. Most of them in the middle of island villages, with painted wooden houses right down to the shoreline.

Although this might sound like a tourist brochure, Martin is in nobody's employee list, honest. He is a congenital wimp and extremely parsimonious, but is always on the lookout for cheap, relaxed, easy, hassle-free cruising destinations. The Bohuslän coast of Sweden perfectly fits these specifications.

In the past Martin has cruised northern Europe extensively, aboard his Vancouver 27 'Zophiel'. Often from a home base at Port Edgar. This has included trips to the Lofoten islands of Arctic Norway and through the Baltic as far as the Russian border with Finland. He has published a number of books about these travels.
