Open Sailing returns just as the weather turns... for the better!
Published 23:41 on 8 Jul 2026
For what seems to have been a remarkably long period of time, the high winds and poor weather conditions that we have experienced had almost put a stop to sailing activity here on the Forth. However, the weather Gods must have been in a good mood on Tuesday and looked favourably upon us for our latest Open Sailing evening.
With Westerly winds gusting up to 27kts, most of the six boats taking part opted to sail under reduced sail plans and despite this, found themselves nearing the Fife coastline in very little time.
Some opted to take advantage of the wind and tacked up river to round Inchmickery before heading back to the harbour. Others prolonged their time on the water to sharpen up their tacking skills by simply sailing back and forth between the North and South shores.
On return to the harbour, our guests were invited by their skippers to join them in the clubhouse for light refreshments and to give them the opportunity to discuss their evening's experience.
Boats in attendance this evening were Moon White, One For The Road, Eriskay, Solveig, Norsk and Gonzo.
Many thanks to all the skippers and crew all who took part in this Open sailing evening and particular thanks to Colin Williamson who volunteered at very short notice to stand in as Boatman.
Our next Open Sailing evening is scheduled for 21st July.
Hope to see you then!
