SUCCESS: RFYC Festival Series 24, 25 August 2023

This year we again invited our neighbours at Forth Corinthians to join us in the Festival Series.
The yachts' declarations to enter were slow in coming in this year, but on the two days of the event, we had a great entry of 12 boats in each of two classes and three more cruisers-in-company sailing on the Friday.
Thursday brought a wind dithering between the west and the south on the course. The yachts sailed their two separate courses, making the race team swallow hard once or twice! The courses were shortened after two rounds and the first boat in each class finished within a couple of minutes of the deadline, giving the others more time to do so!
On the Friday, an even more fickle wind met the PRO and there was much scratching of heads prior to a short course being laid. This time the Easterly held up well and the race finished before dusk!
This was a successful event with the first three winning cruiser racers coming from the Corinthians ~ a complete reverse of last year's result!
- George McKay on Apparition won the Marshall Napier Trophy.
- Our own Will Davies on Willpower took the Carmichael Quaich for the Dayboat class with two firsts.
- Torben on 'Ingrid' won the Best Royal Forth Cruiser prize.
Our thanks go to Edinburgh Gin for the prize glasses awarded and to Sarah and Stewart Robertson who donated 'Harken' Prizes which were presented to the overall winners in each class.
Additionally, we introduced a mini Cruise-in-Company this year. Sadly, only three cruisers took part, but gladly, the wind stayed up and their timed adventure round Inchmickery produced a winner ! : Tidecatcher in a time of 111minutes won with Solveig following in exactly two hours. Moonwhite went fishing, but due credit to her for starting.
The après sailing was just as enjoyable and saw the two clubs mixing socially and the bar being injected with some profit.
Thanks go to the volunteers at the bar, with the chef(s) producing some tasty snacks and staying late to tidy up, the Kismet team who were evident with their contributions in several departments and the PRO team.
In summary we all had a great time on and off the water with 27 boats and many volunteers turning out.
The Sailing Committee hope this event will attract more entries next year.
