WELL, THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS ! Squib UK Nationals 2024

Published 13:09 on 28 Jun 2024

Well, that was the week that was! Quite a few of our members will be having a quiet time at present after putting in a huge effort organising, competing in and assisting with the incredibly successful Stewart Brewing Squib UK National Championship 2024.

It Was Well Worth All The Time and Effort...

Our Commodore extends a heartfelt thankyou to all members who gave up their time to volunteer and make their own valuable contribution to the amazing success of the event. Feedback from competitors throughout the week and afterwards has been most satisfying with repeated comments of it being thoroughly enjoyable, fantastically organised and executed and a really welcoming, friendly vibe throughout the Club. Vice Commodore Sarah Robertson's organisation of the racing, Rear Commodore Will Davies for the clubhouse activities and Rear Commodore Brian Robertson for the lift in and out and yard operation laid the foundation for everyone to have a very enjoyable time.

The wind, on the whole, behaved although was somewhat reluctant to appear on Wednesday until the afternoon. Overall light to moderate and steady conditions prevailed with intermediate sunshine and only one drenching, to provide very competitive racing for the twenty-nine entrants across the week for the eight races. Onshore, the competitors were amply fed and watered ranging from breakfasts, after racing light bites to themed evenings plus the fantastic dinner and prizegiving on Friday evening in a packed clubhouse.

Royal Forth had five entries with highlights being 'Winning Tuesday' with Will Davies in Willpower winning the series' second race and Mark Bradshaw's Magic Flute winning the third.

Overall results for our members' were:

  • 4th Willpower (Will Davies and Kevan Gibb)
  • 11th Magic Flute (Mark Bradshaw and Robin Jarvis) and winner of the Silver Fleet
  • 17th Flare (Derek Gibb and Alistair Reid)
  • 26th Dry Run (Charles Morton and Fiona Drennan)
  • 29th Hera (Michael Tasker & Marco Bauder)

We would like to again thank local sponsor Stewart Brewing for their support. Members can continue to enjoy their brews at the bar. Club member Marcus Pickering was very generous in his sponsorship with prizes, where certain races were sponsored by Pickering's Gin. Members are always able to sample a range of such at the bar including the exclusive Royal Forth Gin produced for the Club by Marcus.

If you haven't already, please go to the Squib Championship tab on our website or to our Facebook page where a daily summary and accompanying pictures/videos tell the story of the week.
