Cruising

There are not many capital cities where within 30 minutes of leaving your office you can be onboard a yacht and dropping the mooring for an adventure. The Firth of Forth offers great sailing, in even better company, surrounded by wildlife from seals to puffins. (We particularly recommend keeping an eye out for the puffins, with their incredible 'crash landings' into the water when the effort to take off becomes too much!)

Club members regularly take friends out for an evening potter; a day-trip over the tide (leaving in the morning and returning in the evening); or perhaps longer trips. Our volunteers arrange Cruises in Company throughout the summer season, where members agree the passage, radio channels for communication and the all-important lunch stop.

All sailing events are published in the online Calendar and boatman hours are published on the Launch Service Times page.

A printable Calendar and the Sailing Handbook can be found in the Racing section. Note that the printable version of the Calendar may not be up to date when changes have to be made at short notice, and the annually updated hard copy version of the Sailing Handbook with charts can be purchased from the bar or our website Shop.

If you prefer the more solitary type of cruising, we'd love to hear where you've been and the tales of your passage. Every year there is a competition for the best logbook submitted (impressive, amusing, whatever type of reporting you prefer!).

Choose your next passage to one of the many nearby cruising destinations:

  • Inchcolm Abbey
  • Inchkeith
  • Inchmickery
  • Aberdour Harbour
  • Silver Sands
  • Forth Clyde Canal
  • Arbroath
  • Many, many more!

Read about our recent events and entertaining tales, and don't forget to send in your stories!
