A fine example of the iconic Westerly Centaur, a bilge keel sailing yacht perfect for the tidal waters of the UK with the ability to visit drying harbours and creeks that many fin keels cannot. This Westerly Centaur has been well cared for by her current owner who has sailed her over the last 8 seasons. During that time he has replaced many important parts such as the standing rigging, running riggings reconditioned engine, reconditioned gearbox, some new instruments and set up the boat for solo sailing. Owner is upsizing. Constructed 1971,This boat is overwintering on the hard but is ready for viewing and is currently being prepared for the new season.

Engine

Reconditioned Volvo Penta Engine installed in 2016 and Reconditioned Gearbox installed in 2021

This Centaur is also equipped with two 12-volt batteries, comprising one for engine use and one for domestic purposes. These batteries charge directly from the engine alternator.

Construction

Cast Iron Bilge Keel with Skeg Rudder with Tiller Steering

Constructed by Westerly Yachts in 1971 to a Lauren Giles Design. White GRP hull with teak rubbing strake, self-draining cockpit with blue and beige non-slip paint.

This Centaur has a Masthead Bermudan sloop rig, with a deck-stepped aluminium Mast and boom. The Standing rigging was replaced in 2017 and much of the running rigging has also been replaced by the owner since purchase in 2016. It is equipped with a furling headsail and a slab reef mainsail with the option of 2 reefs. New winches were installed on the Cabin top so most sail change operations to be carried out from the cockpit.
