COVID 2019: Scottish Dragon Championship & Edinburgh Cup 2020

Inevitably, this event is a prominent casualty of the pandemic and has been cancelled; the full statement is on the website of the British Dragon Association The provisional plan is for the competition still to be held on the Forth - in 2021 - and we look forward to welcoming the British Dragon fleet to our waters then.

Scottish Dragon Championship 2020

Sunday 28th & Monday 29th June

Edinburgh Cup 2020

Tuesday 30th June to Friday 3rd July

The Royal Forth Yacht Club (RFYC) are looking forward to welcoming the Dragon fleet to Edinburgh In 2020. The event was last held on the Forth in 1997.

Granton Harbour, our base, provides berthing on a single 140m long pontoon and easy access to the magnificent open waters of the mid Firth of Forth, which is uninterrupted by large islands or commercial traffic, (no submarine activity!). The racing is set against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat with the three Forth bridge crossings to the West. The starting area is within approximately 1.5M of the harbour mouth.

In keeping with return of the Edinburgh Cup competition to Edinburgh it is anticipated that Bluebottle K192, built in 1948 as a wedding present to their (then) Royal Highnesses Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh, will have completed her restoration and will be on the water with the fleet. She is part of the Royal yacht collection and will be joining the former Royal Yacht Britannia, based in Leith, a mile from Granton.

We have generous sponsorship in place and this will help us provide facilities for the racing fleet, prizes and an extensive social programme. Attractions will include an evening reception aboard the former Royal Yacht Britannia. We will have a final Friday evening dinner in Loch Fyne restaurant in the nearby Newhaven harbour. Other social events are in the planning stages.

You are in our updated club website so we can offer online entries opening in March. The Notice of Race documents, latest Event Outline Schedule and other documents will be added to this site and for those already entered we will inform you of document additions or amendments.

An accommodation list is included and for those wanting somewhere memorable to stay and you can enjoy a special rate for accommodation aboard Fingal, the former Northern Lighthouse Board vessel now converted into a luxury floating hotel near Britannia.

Secure your place and pay online here: Book Online

Email us at if you have any questions in the meantime.
